Photoblog #9: Stu Larsen, Chris Simmons & Catherine Ireton, Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, Brighton, 22nd Feb 2013

We were expecting this to be a great show, as we were fans of all the artists playing, and we were not disappointed. All three musicians put on excellent performances! Our man Victorsson was there to capture some great photos.

Photoblog #8: Jacko Hooper, Plasticine, Holy Vessels & Abi Wade – Seamonsters, Prince Albert, Brighton 23rd Jan 2013

Seamonsters, the celebration of Brighton musicians, is now in it’s third year. Local promoters One Inch Badge hosted the festival at The Prince Albert and brought in bands from all across the musical spectrum.

someofitistrue and our resident photographer, Victorsson, popped along on the Wednesday – and a fine evenings entertainment was provided. Undoubtedly, for us, the icing on this particular cake was provided by the mesmerising Abi Wade, who has a unique and brilliant sound. That said Jacko Hooper also caught the eye with an intense and engaging performance – we look forward to seeing how 2013 pans out for him.

Photoblog #7: Daughter & Lay Low, St Mary’s Church, Brighton (17th Jan 2013)

St Mary’s Church provides an awesome venue for bands – it looks great and sounds excellent. At this time of year it’s not quite such a pleasurable experience for the gig goer – due to the fact that is is bloody freezing inside! Our man with the camera, Victorsson, joined us in braving the cold to watch Daughter & Lay Low. I’m pleased to report it was well worth it – a brilliant show by artists well worth keeping an eye on in 2013.

Photoblog #6: Ravens & Chimes, The Hope, Brighton (Thursday 22nd November)

Recent ‘In Bloom’ guests, Ravens & Chimes, played their first ever UK show in Brighton last Thursday. We are massive fans of the new album, Holiday Life and were therefore excited to see the band play live.

Natassja kicked off proceedings and although the music was not really our bag the strength of her vocals was undeniable.

Ravens & Chimes were a joy, they seemed genuinely surprised they had an audience, playing a tight set and chatting to the crowd throughout. In Asher, they have a frontman who is a bundle of nervous energy but has a very engaging charisma. This was a fine show – and hopefully the first of many in Brighton.

Photoblog #4: Hurray For The Riff Raff, The Green Door Store, Brighton (Tuesday 11th September 2012)

Victorsson may be on his holidays but, here at someofitistrue we are a resourceful bunch and we managed to find another talented photographer called Jon to bring you pictures from the amazing Hurray For The Riff Raff show at The Green Door Store. I think you’ll agree that there are some great shots of what was an electric performance…..

Photoblog #3: Larkin Poe Live (16th August 2012)

Our friends at Union Music Store have been busy singing the praises of Larkin Poe since we started going into the shop. They have also been good enough to bring Rebecca and Megan to play in Lewes and Brighton on numerous occasions!

Larkin Poe aren’t a hard sell – they make beautiful records, are brilliant live, have a great band and seem like genuinely lovely people. If you add House of Hats to the live mix you, undoubtedly, have a great show on your hands. Victorsson dug out his camera for the first time since The Staves (surely a coincedence) to capture the evening. I hope you enjoy as much as we all did!

Photo Blog #2: The Staves, Christof, Zoe Brownrigg at Brighton Ballroom 2nd May 2012

Here at someofitistrue we have been fans of The Staves for some time. My good friend Victorsson, who has been following their progress closely, wasn’t going to miss this opportunity to bring along his camera and capture this show, at the lovely Brighton Ballroom. We were spoilt when we found out that someofitistrue fave Zoe Brownrigg was also on the bill. The final act was Christof, and although we were unaware of his work, it’s fair to say that he had charmed most of the room by the end of the evening.

I’m going to let the pictures do the talking, with just one final recommendation that you give the music of all of these bands a listen.
