Something For The Weekend #5: Plaided, Maglia Rosa Group & Johnno Casson

This is one of those posts where we just need to share some of the music we are enjoying. We’re going to do our best to get two of these artists on the blog, and the other has already made his someofitistrue debut!

Maglia Rosa Group

MRG

Hailing from Norwich (is it just me, or is a lot happening musically in Norwich at the moment?) the Maglia Rosa Group released their debut EP, ‘Nighthawks‘ at the end of last year. It has four great tracks and, to these ears, pulls in influences such as The Cure, Bjork, Kate Bush and Wild Beasts. As we love all these bands it was bound to appeal to us! Check out the video for ‘Nighthawks’ and also the EP (which you can ‘Name Your Price’ download over on Bandcamp). We have an interview with the band coming in the next few weeks!

Plaided

Plaided

We’ll let Plaided describe their album, “Playdate is like the one eyed wildcat on the cover: demanding and beautiful.”  That’s saved us a job as it pretty much sums it up – an album you’ve gotta spend some time getting to know, once you do the songs really start to jump out and grab you by the scruff of the neck! If you get a chance to see the band play live we wholeheartedly recommend you get along – it is a blistering show. We are hoping to catch up with Plaided as well over the next few weeks

Johnno Casson

Window Dressing

Johnno, who we featured last year (In Bloom #1), has been busy collaborating with a wide range of artists, to create an alternative take of his recent album ‘Window Shopping‘, the output of this fascinating creative endeavour is ‘Window Dressing’ .

The album is released on 25th February 2013 on Rash Records as a FREE download http://rashrecords.co.uk

In the meantime here is a track we are really enjoying, the Pulco remix of  ‘Forget It’.

  1. You’re not wrong, there is a lot going on in Norwich at the moment. So much so that gems like the Maglia Rosa Group are able to escape my attention.
Thanks for reminding me they are out there.
